What is a Trojan?

Trojans are software or program that has been purposely crafted by hackers and represent a kind of virus. However, it is different from virus as it cannot replicate nor does it damage everything present on Windows PC. It gets inside without any major indications and in most of the cases Windows users hardly knows that their PC has been infected by Trojan horse virus. The main motive behind the creation and manifestation of trojan is to steal the sensitive data that are stored on the system. Trojan can be classed into various Types

Spyware: This is most abundant type of Trojan and collect all sensitive passwords and then transfer them to hackers (or its creators). Thus they serve the purpose for which it has been created by hackers. Such passwords are sent across mails.

Keyloggers: As it is evident from the very name, it records the keystroke which are used for the purpose of logging Internet banking or any such sensitve data. Thes recorded keystrokes and data is sent across to hackers.

Downloader: It downloads and installs other trojan from the web. Ususlly it can be considered as virus since it spreads as viruses do.

Droppers: It drops other Trojan onto the compromised PC.

Joke Programs: These are harmless and created for fun purpose. They often display messages that your data will be transferred to someone or hackers. PC will be restarted now etc.

Destructive Trojan: It is the most dangerous of all Trojans and can badly affect system. It encores data, can even destroy partition and the data stored within.

How To Prevent Our PC from Trojans

  • Use antivirus and update whenever its available.
  • Never block firewalls.
  • Use latest operating system with the update mode;
  • Avoid working as Administrator most often. If trojan will be in the system, it will work with an account with limited rights;
  • download software only from official sites. Moreover from reputed or trusted sources only.
  • Avoid unknown and suspicious sites that displays excessive ads
  • don’t save passwords on websites which asks for.

Start Windows XP/Vista/7 in Safe Mode To Remove Trojan

  • First of all, you need to restart your infected System.

  • Type “msconfig” in the “Start” button and select “System Configuration” option.

  • Under the Hidden files and folders section, you should select radio button labeled “Show hidden files and folders”.

  • After that, remove the check-mark from the check-box labeled as “Hide extensions for known file types” and “Hide protected operating system files”.

  • Press “Apply” and then click on “OK” button.

  • Now, your Windows 7 is configured to show all hidden files and folders.
